Sofia Track Review

Back in 2019, Clairo released Sofia as the third single off her debut album Immunity. Now in 2020, it has become a sleeper hit after going viral on TikTok. so we are going to give it a review.

L: This struck me as a simple love song with a few tricks up its sleeve. In the first few notes I can hear The Strokes, The Walkmen … I love the surprise of a pop song built on indie rock influences.

C: I totally agree about hearing The Strokes in the beginning, something off Is This It. The song feels very dreamy, like a car ride on the coast. It’s minimal, but with the perfect amount of texture and motion throughout the song.

L: Her lyrics aren’t complex - it’s a short, sweet, optimistic love song - but she keeps it surprising with those textures you mentioned. Each time she switches gears, I feel like I’m hearing what could be a completely different song.

C: This is a song about her not wanting a relationship to die out, so while I do think the lyrics are uncomplicated, it helps it feel natural and from the heart.

Ratings Scale: This a beautiful, heartfelt song, and we can’t wait to hear more from Clairo.
