Good Days Track Review
C: It’s our first post of the new year! We’re kicking off with SZA’s latest song, Good Days, from her upcoming project.
L: What first struck me about this song was its stark - and welcome - contrast to the dark cacophony of our world right now. Good Days floats, dances, lifts and almost makes us grateful for our everyday emotions.
C: What the instrumental immediately reminded me of is one of those lofi hip-hop beats people use to study. Something about it is so easy to lose yourself in.
L: Lyrically, she’s got a light touch for heavy issues. “Tryna make sense of loose change, got me a war in my mind,” but the song is called Good Days. She always returns to the positive and her belief that she can “let go of the weight.”
C: I think one of the highlights of the song is the lyric “All the while, I’ll await my armored fate with a smile.” It’s definitely about facing negativity, clearing your head, and taking life day by day. I also like how the dreamy production allows you to focus on SZA’s glorious vocals.
L: I completely agree. I don’t come away from this song replaying a heavy hook in my mind, I come away feeling uplifted by the delicacy and agility of SZA’s voice.
C: Right. That’s what keeps me coming back to the song, the way her voice just glides.
Ratings Scale: If Garden (Say It LIke Dat) is a SZA 10/10, Good Days is a 9/10.
